Depending on whether you are handwriting (with a pen/pencil and paper) or typing (on a computer), there is certain punctuation associated with - generally speaking - two types of texts: long and short works. The tricks to remembering the correct punctuation (underlining, quotation marks, or italicizing) are provided below, as well as a basic categorization of "long" and "short" works for general reference.
